News flash: Some videos do more harm than good.

Not everything you see on the internet is cute. For every harmless clip of kittens being naughty, there’s a very, very harmful video of humans hurting one another in gory fashion.

Seriously, no one needs to see that. Here’s the problem, though: Since the internet is so easy to access in this day and age, thousands of these videos pop up across social media platforms. Who keeps this toxic stuff at bay?

Maybe you can do the job.

TikTok, reportedly the hottest social media platform today, is looking for content moderators who will keep an eye out for inappropriate videos. Specifically, it needs moderators in certain locations across Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

By evaluating the content that gets uploaded to TikTok, these moderators can help make the internet a safer environment.

Why this job matters

Look, we all love a good joke or a good challenge. And, like any decent society, we give one another some leeway in order to express our personal views.

However, when social media content crosses the line, someone’s got to put their foot down.

Well aware of the eyebrow-raising and downright shocking uploads on its platform, TikTok has set out to hire content moderators to be its eyes and ears. Content moderators need to spot clips that contain the following:

  • Violence
  • Extremism
  • Hate speech
  • Animal cruelty
  • Child abuse or exploitation

Some clips might be open to interpretation. As you can imagine, there will be TikTok creators out there who will invoke their right to free speech, freedom of expression, and other rights they consider inalienable.

The problem is that there’s no ambiguity when it comes to the damage that’s been caused by unchecked TikTok content. In an effort to keep up with certain TikTok trends, teenagers have kicked down strangers’ doors, young women have experienced nausea after using a nasal spray, and two children have died while attempting the suffocating Blackout Challenge.

That’s reality, folks, and that’s exactly why eagle-eyed content moderators are needed.

Responsibilities and qualifications

As a TikTok content moderator, you’ll be carrying out these specific duties:

  • Looking into the legal compliance and safety of all uploaded content
  • Developing, enhancing, and upholding standards for security
  • Coming up with and implementing improvements for content management strategy
  • Communicating with supervising departments in order to properly address policy violations
