Working in customer care can be very rewarding. You can help improve people’s lives and make a real difference, all while learning essential life skills.
Don’t be fooled, though: It’s not an easy job. It can be stressful at times due to the high volume of queries, time pressure, challenging customers, and complex problems. However, if you have the right mindset, you’ll love it, especially when you know you are helping medical patients.
More on Neighborhood Healthcare
Neighborhood Healthcare is a non-profit health organization serving communities in the state of California since 1969. Some of the services it offers include vaccination, pediatric care, dental care, acupuncture, counseling, prenatal care, chiropractic medicine, cancer detection and prevention, and weight management.
Inclusive and accessible, the company is on a mission to provide quality healthcare to every patient, regardless of their insurance status, circumstances, or ability to pay. This means that uninsured patients get the same quality treatment but at lower costs. Many support the company’s vision, so there are always volunteers helping it accomplish its mission.
Today, Neighborhood Healthcare serves about 415,000 medical, dental, and behavioral health visits from over 87,000 patients every year.
Given this large number of visits, the organization is looking to hire remote call center representatives to help patients with any queries regarding their healthcare.
Required skills and experience
The successful candidate has a high school diploma or a GED equivalent and at least a year of customer service-related experience. You will also need certain skills, such as basic computer knowledge and the ability to navigate a multiline phone system.
Since you will be handling calls and answering queries, you will need to have strong communication skills to interact effectively not only with patients but also with clinic staff.
If you want to bolster your chances of landing this job, try to learn as many medical terms as you can. You will work with spreadsheets and databases, so some knowledge of these is preferred.
Note: Each Neighborhood Healthcare employee should be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (booster included) and show proof of vaccination/booster upon hire or provide an approved exception to vaccination based on a medical exemption, disability, or religious belief.
