What an administrative specialist does

The primary responsibility of an administrative specialist is to lend valuable support to Facebook’s clients around the globe.

This support comes in the form of calendaring, making travel plans, and handling expense reports. As such, you need to bring your multifaceted A-game if you want to be in serious consideration for this job.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Scheduling meetings for clients (Obviously, this job isn’t for folks with a poor sense of time.)
  • Managing ad-hoc meetings and room bookings
  • Offering recommendations regarding time management to clients
  • Making sure the program scope of support remains within the bounds of service level agreements
  • Staying in constant communication with clients in order to set business priorities straight
  • Keeping clients well-informed about program goals and service level agreements
  • Exchanging best practices with and, when necessary, providing coverage support to fellow administrative specialists

Qualifications

Get this: You don’t need a college degree in order to apply for this job!

What you do need, though, is the kind of experience Facebook is looking for. For one, you need at least two years of experience in providing administrative support and managing calendars.

You should also have know-how in handling travel logistics and expense reports. Familiarity with Microsoft Office is a must-have, as is the ability to render sound judgment in order to uphold company policies in various situations.

Oh, and you better know how to multitask. (What job doesn’t demand it these days?)

The likelihood of your resume getting noticed will increase if you’ve earned your stripes in customer service. Facebook prefers specialists who have simultaneously rendered support to multiple executives, as well as those with high-volume coordination experience.

Here’s the clincher: The estimated pay rate for an administrative specialist is $31 an hour (plus bonuses and benefits), which amounts to around $1,150 a week.

Not bad. Not bad at all.
